Frequently Asked Questions about Face Masks

Frequently Asked Questions about Happy Masks

We’re pretty new, so we don’t have much here yet…

But please ask us your FAQs, we’ll answer them and put them here for you…

Here are some to get you started:

Do your face masks protect against COVID-19?

Yes and No… First… Yes, all masks covering the face can protect against spreading the Coronavirus to other people, if you have the Coronavirus. So the premise here is that if we ALL wear masks then we stop spreading the virus throughout the population.

What about the No bit? If you’re a Doctor or Nurse you’ll already know that this probably isn’t the best kind of mask for you. You’re better off with disposable medical masks, just for hygiene sake. And some people working in high-risk environments will want N95 masks (but honestly they may not be all that effective either, because they’re hard to wear for long periods).

So our masks are for you if you’re a member of the public and want to protect yourself and others from the spread of Covid-19.

How long until I get my face masks or filters?

Good question… Our factory ships quickly and frequently, but the world is in a mixed-up state at the moment, so we can’t really say, but please be patient and they’ll arrive. You will also receive a tracking number once your order has been dispatched, which will allow you to check the progress of your order on its journey to you. We use 17Track to track our parcels, so visit the link once you receive your tracking code.

What are the postage costs?

Shipping is Free to the USA, Canada and UK. Shipping for the rest of the world is a flat rate of €2, no matter how many masks you buy! Check it out, the cart will update automatically when you put stuff in there!

How long do the carbon filters last for?

This depends on how long and how often you use them. The best way to know when it’s time to dispose of your filter is to check for any sort of oily residue, stickiness or stains building up on the filter. Once you see any buildup happening it’s time to replace the filter for a new one. This could be a day, or several weeks, depending on how much you are using the face mask and what environment you are using the face mask in.

How should I wash and care for my face mask?

Our advice is that you should wash your face masks on the highest temperature that the fabric will handle, but you should be careful not to damage your mask with excessive temperatures. So our cotton face masks can be washed as hot as 60°C/140°F (but it isn’t necessary), while the elastane/spandex masks can only be washed up to 30°C/86°F. In addition, it is important not to use detergents with chlorine/bleach on elastane/spandex face masks, as this can damage the fabric.

The CDC doesn’t give any washing temperature guideline, instead, saying that machine washing is sufficient to remove contamination from face masks.

The Huffington Post makes a number of recommendations on washing face masks and recommends temperatures over 26.6°C/80°F which is nearly a warm wash.

Where are your face masks made?

Our masks are made in a factory in China (where everything else is made, right) in a safe area far way from Wuhan! But let’s face it, China is pretty much the safest place in the world right now. They immediately locked down their population (for 3 and half months and counting) and managed to freeze the spread of the disease!
